Please find below details of the 7th Annual Science & Innovation Conference, taking place on Wednesday 16th June, QEII Conference Centre, London.
This is the UK’s premier event for those involved with the UK’s science and innovation sector. Over 400 key decision makers from across the UK will be present at this high profile and prestigious conference, joining over 20 speakers and 20 exhibitors to discuss the latest topics affecting UK Science and Innovation.
Phil Willis MP, Chair of the Science and Technology Select Committee, is now confirmed to Chair the event and will preside over leading experts from across the sector on a day that promises to be a lively and educational event. Jonathon Porritt, Founder Director, Forum for the Future, is confirmed to deliver the presentation Towards a Sustainable and Green Economy. This presentation will seek answers to critical questions including: What should we make of the Copenhagen accord? Does the Government’s low carbon strategy go far enough in the fight against climate change? The Carbon Reduction Commitment will also be under discussion along with new ideas on how to create a sustainable and green economy for both developed and developing nations.
Following on from the launch of the Going for Growth strategy released just last week, setting out the government’s plans to return the economy to strong, sustainable, long-term growth, Science & Innovation 2010 is perfectly timed to examine in close detail the policies in place to ensure economic growth through the commercialisation of our science and research base and the continued drive towards a low carbon economy that creates both business and employment opportunities. Going for Growth focuses on increasing employment, raising incomes and supporting an improving quality of life, while restoring public finances and preventing cuts to essential public services. Speaking of the strategy the Prime Minister said the government will invest £70 million in three state-of-the-art manufacturing research centres to help UK businesses develop products of the future. Lord Mandelson said: “We will turn new technologies into jobs, like those in digital and biotechnologies. We will commercialise the output of our hugely successful science and research base. We will turn low carbon into business and employment opportunities. ”Number10.gov.uk - Jan 2010 bis.gov.uk - Jan 2010 Science & Innovation 2010 will examine current and future policy in close detail. That will create both business and employment opportunities.
